Pep Rallies have always been a big hit at Saint Cloud Highschool. They consist of gathering our school together, broadcasting any important upcoming announcements, and even special entertainment that is performed by the staff and students.
Pep rallies play a crucial role in encouraging school spirit amongst students at Saint Cloud High. Every year, students look forward to the highly anticipated first pep rally of the year. For freshman, it’s their first chance to experience bulldog spirit. For seniors, it’s their last year of showing off their pride. By bringing the students together, bonds are created, students are stress free from assignments, and instead of pressure from school, it’s excitement. These gatherings also give the opportunity for everyone to show off their school spirit. Many dress up in school colors and seniors wear their matching senior crowns and t-shirts, building a sense of camaraderie. Per Ms. Neglia, Dean at Saint Cloud High School, this year's first pep rally theme was “the glow.” Staff members and even some students wore bright pink shirts to represent this theme. However, The Glow theme was not fully recognized by students.
Pep rallies require a small entrance payment, which according to Mrs. Neglia is “$2 from Monday-Thursday, and $3 on the day of the pep rally (Friday).” Pep rallies are always held in the gymnasium and the amount of space in the gym gives plenty of room for the performances to take place. This includes cheerleaders, golden girls, sports players, class officers, and even interactive performances by the staff. This is also when admin takes the opportunity to communicate special announcements such as homecoming details and coronations for homecoming king and queen.
According to Mrs. Neglia, pep rallies are centered around a certain theme which adds enthusiasm and anticipation, this gives off the energy for “kids to be kids.” This combination of themed activities and live performances encourage students to embrace and build their high school spirit, making each pep rally memorable for all of Saint Cloud High. This brings joy to not just the students, but the staff as well. She also says this is a time where even the staff can enjoy their time and bring out a side of them that “not many kids get to see.”
The Glow Pep Rally involved many spirit building events and experiences that will be remembered.
