Stranger Things is a thriller, horror television show streaming on Netflix, which recently gained a substantial amount of popularity because of Season 5 releasing after three years. Many felt the finale had a lot of potential but were disappointed in how the show ended.

Viewers of the show felt the finale wasn’t to their standard because the production wasn’t up to par. Matt and Ross Duffer didn’t put the compassion needed to make the show end on a good note. Season one of the show came out in 2016, and after almost a decade, many anticipated a more emotional ending for some of their favorite characters. Fans felt some character’s stories were left unfinished, leading to an unimpressive and anticlimactic ending.

Additionally, many viewers felt the season was frantic due to how anticipated it was to be released. According to Adrian Moya, a junior at Saint Cloud High School, “It was just extremely rushed. The 40-minute epilogue took up most of the episode, and it just didn’t answer a whole bunch of viewers’ questions that they’ve had for 10 years.” Also, countless fans suspect that AI was used to write the scripts for most of the installments, which demonstrated the considerable amount of plot holes in the 8-episode season.

Furthermore, the ending was confusing. There were some new things introduced last minute that had people questioning Season 5’s storyline. For example, wormholes, pregnant women, and the Mind Flayer’s new form. These things left viewers with endless questions rather than a clear-cut answer that many expected to come with the finale. According to Angie Lopez, “the ending was very confusing especially to people who didn’t catch up on the seasons prior. And there were unnecessary things added that didn’t make any sense.” The confusion surrounding this season led to a lack of enjoyment among viewers and disappointment overall.

Though the finale had an assortment of action heavy scenes, those moments didn’t fully make up for weak plot lines and general chaos brought about season 5’s poor writing. Because of this, many fans felt underwhelmed and frustrated with the quality that they felt didn’t match that of earlier seasons.
