This year on September 20th, the Saint Cloud High School varsity football team played against Merritt Island. The expectations were high for coach’s, students, and staff.
The homecoming game was a special event because for many, it is followed by our annual homecoming dance so therefore the stakes are high. According to Coach Short, the head football coach at SCHS, said “It’s our homecoming game so we better win.” Clearly, he had high expectations for himself and his players. Given their previous loss to Osceola High, coach short states “homecoming game will have a different energy”. “They played against a top-notch team so it was going to be a tough game, but they put their best foot forward and gave it their best shot and tonight will be totally different.” In addition, when asked about his strategy and game plan he stated, “The players are just trying to heal and rest up. They were pretty banged up because they practice as hard as they played. So, they were trying to heal and rest up during practice to get ready for the homecoming game.” Coach Short strategy was simple and easy.
Logan King, the varsity football quarterback, was asked his expectations and he stated, “my expectations for tonight’s game is to win I want to win this game because it’s our homecoming game” Coach short was not the only one with expectations, also Logan’s expectations were simple, to win the football game. In addition, Logan also stated, “I want to win this game for the coaches, my teammates, and staff. I want to win this game and not let nobody down I felt like I let everyone down when we lost to Osceola the previous week. So tonight, we are going to come ready and with a different energy.” Logan was hungry and optimistic for a win. Logan wants to win but not only for himself but for the whole school.
Unfortunately, Merritt Island took the win with 26-23 in overtime. It was a very close game with Logans 466 passing yards and 2 touchdowns and Alexander Springs 10 catches for 177 yards
