The students at SCHS are required to pay an entrance fee to attend the pep rally’s in hopes to raise money. Many questions have been asked, why do students have to pay a fee rather than getting in for free?
Students pay a small fee of $2 and then the day of, they raise the price by $1 making it a $3 fee. Since, it’s a small price to pay, the concept tends to get overlooked. What isn’t looked into more is why students have to pay for their tickets. Ms. Neglia mentions that the reason students have to pay for a ticket is more of a fundraising situation, saying, “The money that is collected for the pep rally goes back into a SCHS account and that money goes back into the school, for other events, activities and awards for the students.” For example, the money is used for decorations at dances, events like club rush and the college fair.
The fundraiser would be huge if all the students pay to go. Ms. Neglia mentioned that there is no set limit on how many students can attend. However, there is a limit on how many people are allowed in the gym at one time. She says, “If we sold more than that number, I would think we would brainstorm and possibly move it outside to the football field.” Students are sat in the gym for pep rally’s for the most part, the past years including the recent homecoming pep rally, the students were sat by grade level. Moving forward the school is planning on sitting the students in their advisory houses.
The pep rally’s are about having fun and showing your school spirit! Spreading laughs and joy to one another chanting the school’s name. The seniors also celebrate their last moments together. From the football players rallying up for the huge game against our rivals to cheerleaders filling the gym with spirit. The dancers amaze the audience with their moves, and the mascots being silly. The excitement is endless. Teachers and admin are also very excited and amped up with all of their school spirit for the pep rallies.
The bulldogs are loud and proud. Spreading cheer and spirit throughout the school. The small entrance fee raises money to go back to the school and used for events and activities and the spirit and pride knows no bounds. The school sticks together and stays together, might be worth the price.
