Saint Cloud Highschool’s JROTC class is part of a very valuable program, teaching future adults impeccable leadership and responsibility skills. Although students honor the memories made with the previous first sergeant Torres, they are now making new ones with this year’s brand-new first sergeant, Mr. Nelson Cruz-Bianchi.

      First Sergeant Cruz has been an outstanding addition to the JROTCs staff. Through his infectious laugh and his golden character, he manages to keep even the most serious cadets smiling. Anyone who walks by him can notice his delightful nature. He is a genuine person who values those around him, he says, “I really just want to build relationships with as many people as I possibly can.” His desire for connection and meaningful interactions show that he prioritizes relationships and the impact they have on his life and others. He’s not just a great instructor, but also a mentor who genuinely cares about his student’s success. Having immense openness and warmth make him someone who seeks to foster a sense of community and understanding with everyone he meets. His military past gives him an advantage in teaching. Prior to teaching, he was in active duty in the army for 26 years, and a teacher for 2 years.

      First Sergeant Cruz is a proud, active member of the Saint Cloud community and has shown immense loyalty to SCHS. His admiration first began after attending several competitions held by SCHS. He says how, “the culture of the school seemed really awesome, everybody seemed super unified and just super proud to be a bulldog.” His dedication to service extends beyond the classroom, making him a role model for cadets and community members alike.

     Cadet Mia Perez states, “He’s hilarious, I have him 5th period, so before lunch, and he always dances to “Who Let the Dogs Out.” He’s a really good first sergeant, he’s really caring and fun, but he can be serious if he has to be.” Sure, he’s strict when he needs to be, but he also knows how to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke or funny story.

     Whether he’s leading in physical training, or teaching a class on military guidelines, First Sergeant Cruz always brings his A-game. His unwavering dedication and attention to detail inspire those around him. With his experience and knowledge, he sets a high standard for everyone to follow.
