Coach Beaverson, head coach for girls lacrosse at St. Cloud High School, decided to break the norms and steer away from regular brands for the teams apparel, he opted to buy Lululemon for the girls to break the norms and steer away from regular brands for the team's apparel. Lacrosse has been considered a varsity sport at SCHS for the past four years. Although it's the newest addition to athletics, it has broken many barriers. The girls were county champs last season, beating Tohopekaliga 18 to 3 and Celebration 17 to 2.
Every year, teams receive what are called spirit packs. They include SCHS branded products such as t-shirts and hoodies. For instance, last year, the girls Lacrosse team received two t-shirts and a pair of sweatpants in addition to Nike branded white jerseys. This year, Coach Beaverson decided to add some new items to the packs. Now introducing Lululemon, which is known for premium athletic wear and its high pricing, determining the brand's exclusivity.
The spirit packs also differ each year and team. More specifically, last year Coach Beaverson ordered the girls some items that would benefit them for their trip to Georgia which included new shirts, a new bag tag, and a Nike branded jacket. Coach Beaverson said, “Each year we look at the needs of the team and what the theme of that year may be to determine it.” Therefore, this year he decided to add Lululemon to determine the sports inclusivity on campus. However, Beaverson is completely stepping away from his tradition of buying the girls Nike as that has been his go-to for almost four years now. Instead, he’s choosing to buy more items that'll help the girls achieve a successful season.
However, Coach Beaverson also stated “nothing comes for free”, especially when buying high-end brands such as Nike and Lululemon. This is one of the reasons the team heavily relies on funds from fundraisers. For the past three years, Beaverson has used Vertical Raise, an online platform that can be used to raise money for a certain goal by having people give donations on behalf of a player. However, this year the team made calendars as a way to fundraise. According to the teams goalie, Auburn Murray, “Right now, we’re putting together a calendar where people can donate whatever days amount. It’s a really nice concept cause the most someone donates is $31, which isn’t even a lot, but it all totals up to a few hundred dollars which will really help out this year.” It works by buying a day of the month, for example the 31st is $31. The money generated from the fundraisers goes straight to the teams' bank account to help pay for all the necessities. Senior, Isabella Guzman also stated, “The team funds by doing fundraisers such as the calendar, car washes, spirit nights and working concession stands.” Doing these fundraisers helps create more earnings to go towards buying the team good, high-quality clothing, one of the many expenses.
Since the announcement of the purchase of Lululemon, many players say it has been the most anticipated item in the spirit packs. According to SCHS junior Olivia Sullivan, “The item I’m most excited for is definitely the Lululemon because we can finally wear our shorts to school and look like a team.” The team is always excited for the spirit packs as they tend to include unique items such as backpacks and bag tags. Along with the Lululemon shorts and long sleeve shirt, Coach Beaverson has additionally suggested new backpacks made especially for girls lacrosse and have their names embroidered on them. According to Senior, Auburn Murray, “I think I’m most excited for the new backpacks, it’ll be nice to leave with something new like that, something that I can use a few years down the line.” Players are ecstatic at all the new things that may be included in the 2025-2026 spirit packs.
