Dress code for girls is one of the most controversial topics for all students and administration at St. Cloud High School.
Although the dress code can be considered controversial or in other terms secluded to only girls at school, the administration tries to be as neutral as they can when speaking on this topic or enforcing it. The dress code that is thought to be specific to girls, includes the 6-inch inseam, no cleavage, no halter tops, no crop tops, and no spandex or yoga pants. With this, Mrs. Myers has discussed with us that “...dress code is board policy that’s set by the school board of Osceola County that’s not something that St. Cloud High School decides.” So, this goes to show that the school itself isn't at fault for the disagreement by students; in fact, the school has done “...several things to dress code to try to make a little more relaxed.
This policy has most students believing that it is singling out the girls rather than the boys. While it may seem like the school has such targeted rules for girls, it is the school board enforcing these codes onto Osceola County schools. Questions have arisen from the students at school about why the code includes more feminine clothing, making it seem exclusive to girls. Following this question of why, Mrs. Myers has said that “I don’t think it's unfair I just think that girls have more opportunities to get coded.” The school's goal isn't to make women feel that they are being targeted, they're aiming for safety and less distractions as said by administration.
St. Cloud High school does not create the dress code policies they just enforce them. In other words, the school is not in charge of making the rules they are responsible for implementing them.
