St. Cloud High School introduced a new schedule to the 2024-2025 school year, including a new class- advisory. Many from the admin team all put their minds together and created the “Houses” of SCHS. In hopes to provide a way for students to build relationships within the school. Whether it is with teachers, staff, or peers around them.
Two years ago, students met in PAWS, but last year they started meeting in advisory. Advisory is divided by last name. This makes it easier for the staff to separate the students into their respective houses. This also allows students to get thirty minutes of “study hall” every Wednesday to catch up on any missing work they might have, additionally giving them time to meet with any teacher or staff they need to talk to without interrupting class time.
Ms. Neglia, student voice, dean, and PBIS coordinator, mentions that admin has had a very good experience so far with this being the second year of having the houses. “Adding more competitions to really get the kids involved in the culture” is something the staff is hoping to carry out and develop soon. She also mentioned that last year was the first year and the goal was “trying to roll it out, see what the kinks needed to be changed and move forward.”
The houses were named after the maroon and gold standards which are Commitment, Respect, Responsibility, and Leaders. In doing so, students are reminded of the maroon and gold standards that students are to abide by when stepping foot on campus.
Overall, these houses make St. Cloud High School come together as one, creating more relationships between students and staff to guarantee an unforgettable high school experience that is remembered forever.
